Happy Wednesday, Darlings! As most of you know, I spent the weekend moving. I was left without internet and cable until late Monday night, and I didn’t know what to do with myself (literally, first world problems).
I kid you not, at one point I was sprawled out on my kitchen floor listening to Pandora thinking about how bored I was. That’s when it hit me!
When was the last time you completely forgot about your phone for a chunk of time? We become so accustomed and all consumed to our phones, that we forget to enjoy the little things.
With some free time on my hands, I decided to put the phone down (that I couldn’t get a connection on anyway) and take up reading. I am currently into the self-help trend (and it has honestly changed my life).
Today, I want to highlight 2 fabulous books that I’ve found to be great reads.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck
This is literally the ultimate self-help guide to getting through life. Mark Mason is blunt, funny and f*cking brilliant! I struggle with major anxiety (we will get into this another day), which isn’t uncommon for us millennials. This book helped change my perception on how I approach certain situations. I am not completely done with the book yet, so I will not leave a full review or give anything away. I will however, leave you with this.
With most self-help books, you get so excited about making life improvements in the beginning. You are running on this “high” of improving your life, but it usually doesn’t last long. Give it a few weeks, and you fall back into the same old patterns.
This is not one of those books. This is the type of book that hits you hard because it’s a wake-up call. There has been a lot of hype surrounding this book, and so far it is living up to the expectations.
You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life
If you’re a Girl Boss, then this is your read. The main idea is that you are in charge of your life, and it’s up to you to adhere to a positive mindset and make changes. Jen Sincero’s tone is that of a friend, like I want to be friends with her IRL.
The only thing that was a little distracting for me at times was the spiritual vibe. But, she does this in a “non-pushing her religion on you” way, so it’s tolerable. By the end of the book, you’ll have a clearer understanding on why you are the way you are, and how to use “The Universe” to kick some serious ass.
One of my big take-aways came on the topic of “What Other’s Think”. Which, let’s face it, is something I always worry about. Jen says it best, “It’s about respecting yourself, instead of catering to your insecure need to be liked“. BOOM! I definitely think this is a book all 20-something year old females should read.
