My Fave Podcasts & Books

March 18, 2020

Hi Smile Darlings! Ugh, what a week it has been for all of us. We are in this strange time period full of the unknown. So, I wanted to share some content that is not typical on my socials.

I know a lot of you are stressed and tired of hearing about the COVID-19, including me! While it is important to keep yourself updated, it’s okay to take a break from it all.

Today, I am encouraging you to toss your phone aside for a bit. Take some time off social media and away from the news. Do this for a few hours each day. I know how easy it is to consume our free time by picking up our phones. Since we live in a society that is always on the go- I think it is important to use whatever downtime we have to really relax. To actually do something we always say we will get around to doing.

I know a lot of my friends and followers are working from home, or are social distancing. I wanted to give you guys something else to do beside watching Netflix.

Below is a list of my favorite Podcasts and Books. I hope you find something you enjoy!

I listen to an array of podcasts. Sometimes, I am in the mood for comedy. Other times, I want something that is more career focused. Below is my “playlist”.

Healthy Inside, Radiant Outside- HUM

March 13, 2020

Hi friends! If you watch my Instagram stories, you saw that a month and a half ago HUM Nutrition sent me a PR package with some awesome goodies. Today’s post is a review on the products I have been using over this time frame! As always, all opinions are authentic and my own! No BS here! *As a reminder: vitamins are a hard thing to review as everyone’s body is different! What works for me, may not work for you.

What is HUM

Let’s start with the basics. HUM is a team of registered dietitians and highly trained nutritionists. They are dedicated to helping you with your beauty and health goals. A majority of their products are vegetarian or vegan. They are all Gluten-free, Non-GMO, Sustainably Sourced, and Pure. Clinically proven nutrients, personalized to your goal.

How It Works

Head to HUM’s website and take their nutrition quiz here. You’ll be matched with your very own personal nutritionist. They will analyze your answers, recommend the best nutrients for you, and provide a detailed nutrition report. And that’s only the beginning. Your HUM nutritionist is here to give you advice when you want it!

Use this quiz as a guide! Feel free to branch out to other products that may have not made the cut.

After taking my quiz, we found I have a lot of stress I need to work on, I am tired most days than not, and I need a sleep aid (I’m tired all day, but awake at night). From there, a list was generated personalized for me on products I should try.

HUM sent me: Hair Sweet Hair, UBER Energy, Big Chill, and Beauty zzZz.

Hair Sweet Hair

This is a Vegan gummy for stronger, healthier hair. It supports hair growth, maintains the health of hair follicles, and helps with color maintenance. Key ingredients include Fo-Ti, Zinc, PABA and Biotin. This bottle is a 30 day supply.

This gummy is not your standard gummy, like a gummy bear if you will. It is more chewy. I really like the taste, I think it tastes like candy. My sister, however was not a fan.

After a month of taking this every night, I do notice a difference! My hair looks healthier and has grown a little. I saw two of my friends back in January, and then again last week. They both commented on how long my hair got since then! To be transparent, I have been using collagen peptides in smoothies as well, but I only use that maybe 3 times a week.

My hair was thinning by my part and on my temple region. Since using this, I have seen a reduction in those thinning areas! I also feel like my eyebrows are finally starting to fill out (that maybe weird lol).

I am actually pretty happy with my results. I have taken biotin religiously for 6 years, and I have tried other hair vitamin brands (SugarBear Hair, OLLY, Nature’s Bounty) . None of them gave me results as quick as this. I am impressed!

Do I recommend trying this product out- YES! As happy as I am with this product, I know not everyone can spend $25 on hair vitamins. Being realistic, I probably wouldn’t either. Because I now know what this product can do, I will most likely purchase a few times a year. It would not be something I could afford monthly. Scroll to the bottom to find it at one of your favorite online retailers.

UBER Energy

UBER Energy supports natural energy through adrenal strength. It reduces fatigue and increases productivity. Adaptogens boost energy levels throughout the day. It also helps balance stress hormones and resist tension. The key ingredients are Adaptogens, L-Tyrosine, B5 and B6. This bottle is a 30 day supply.

I did not take this product daily, or consistently. I really just used it when I needed a pick-me up, or if I knew it was going to be a long day.

This product is not going to give you the “jolt” you would get from coffee or an energy drink. Occasionally, it worked but other times it didn’t. I have a thyroid disorder and autoimmune disease, so I am tired all the time.

I wanted to love this and I was excited for this to be my new go-to, but sis just didn’t do it for me. I am not a huge fan, and I would not get it again. Maybe if I took it daily I would have noticed more of a change!

Big Chill

This product is supposed to help your mind and body cope with stress. It should enhance your ability to stay calm and focused. It is clinically proven to help the body manage stress. Adaptogens help balance adrenals. The key ingredient is Rhodiola Rosea. This bottle is a 30 day supply. It retails for around $20.

If you know me, I stress a lot. When I am having anxiety or in one of those “moods”, I can get pretty snappy. While this did not have a significant impact on my stress, I did feel like it mellowed me out a little. It made me not care about things that would normally rile me up. It was a subtle effect for sure, but it did a little something.

Again, with this product I only took on days where I knew there would be higher stress levels. I did not take this daily, so that could be why I did not see any drastic changes. I will definitely keep using, and report back!

Would I recommend this? Maybe. I do not feel I have taken full advantage of the product to really give you an answer on that. If you are someone who get’s stressed easily, I don’t see what you have to lose.

Beauty zzZz

This product is supposed to help promote a naturally restful sleep. It reduces the time it takes to fall asleep and boosts daytime alertness. It helps adjust your internal body clock, and promotes a deeper beauty sleep. The key ingredients are Melatonin & B6.

I FRICKIN’ LOVE THIS PRODUCT! I am the type of person who is tired all day, but when it’s time to go to bed I can’t sleep. I take this product 30 minutes before I want to fall asleep, and I am out like a light!

I love it because when I need to wake up in the morning, I wake up with more energy and sometimes before my alarm even goes off! This is usually a good thing, except when I wake up at 4:30AM and can’t go back to sleep lol. I used to be an avid melatonin taker, but melatonin sometimes gives me bad dreams. Melatonin also leaves me feeling groggy when I have to wake up in the morning.

This product worked so well for me, I even bought a second bottle. I have found myself becoming reliant on it though, so I have made an effort to only take it on week nights. The only caution I would give, is sometimes in the earlier morning hours my sleep is interrupted. I tend to sometimes wake up a lot between 3:30-5am. Most times, I am able to fall back into a REM sleep.

For me, this product is a 10/10! I highly recommend it! It is also only $10, so it won’t break the bank.

If you made it to the end, I hope you found this post helpful! HUM seriously has soo many different products out there, I want to try them all. They recently sent me their new product launch called Private Party. It is supposed to support vaginal and urinary track health. It helps maintain yeast balance, promotes a healthy vaginal pH & microbiome, and supports urinary tract health. I truly have no clue how to review that one for ya, haha but never put anything past me!

BOTOX- My Experience

March 4, 2020

Hi Angels! You’re probably here because you read the title, and have some interest in Botox. Let’s be upfront here. Today I am talking about a controversial subject matter. Even though I am an “Influencer”, I am in no way, shape or form trying to tell you that you need Botox.

Getting Botox is a personal decision, and you should always learn the facts before booking an appointment. I am simply writing this post to share my experience with Botox and Charleston Medical Spa. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions on the cosmetic procedure. Please be respectful.

This post will mainly focus on my experience with getting Botox at Charleston Medical Spa, but I wanted to answer some of your most asked questions.

What is Botox?

There is a more scientific explanation for Botox, but I am not going to confuse you with that mumbo jumbo. Simply put, Botox is a protein. It blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscles. This makes the injected muscle unable to contract/ freezes that area. Botox makes wrinkles appear more relaxed and softer. By doing this, it prevents existing wrinkles from getting worse, and new ones from forming over time. To prevent new ones from forming, you need to continue to get Botox somewhat regularly.

Like with any product, there are always potential side effects. Make sure you read up on those, and learn how to prep yourself before your appointment.

Botox Does NOT Get rid of Wrinkles

Botox only lasts anywhere from 3-6 months. It is not a permanent injection. Botox is not the same as fillers. Botox does not fill in existing wrinkles. It makes current ones appear softer, while freezing the injected area to prevent new ones. Also, Botox results are not immediate. It takes 7 days for the results to show and the muscles to freeze.

Does Botox Hurt?

It pinches like any needle would, but the needle is soo teeny tiny it doesn’t hurt per say. I have a very low pain tolerance. If I can make it through, then you will be fine haha. Some places offer a numbing cream, but that honestly is not necessary for Botox.

Is Botox Expensive?

Botox is an investment. I am poor lol, so I do not get it often. I find getting it twice a year works best for me, if I can afford to do so. I only get Botox in my forehead and frown line between my eyes. I use anywhere from 20-35 units.

Botox typically runs anywhere from $11-14 per a unit. A lot of places that provide Botox will do random sales throughout the year. That is when I go!

You can also get Xeomin, which is the generic form of Botox. Xeomin is always more affordable, and usually $9-12 per unit. I have done Xeomin twice and did not notice a real difference between that and Botox.

Depending on how mature your skin is, then that’s where it can add up. I only get what is considered to be small doses. It is usually $200-350. Note: everyone is different!

Charleston Medical Spa

I have gotten Botox/ Xeomin 3 times in the past, but that was before I moved to Charleston. After going a year and a half without it, I knew before my 30th birthday it was something I needed to do again. Being new to Charleston, I was unsure of where to go. After doing some research, I came across Charleston Medical Spa and all their raving reviews!

Charleston Medical Spa is an award winning medical spa offering the most advanced treatments to help you look and feel your best. They offer complimentary consultations too!

I was fortunate enough to be able to collaborate with them for my first Botox experience in Charleston. While I did receive a discounted rate for this collaboration, all reviews and opinions are my own.

Charleston Medical Spa is located off Maybank Highway on James Island. They are located in a plaza, and have a parking lot. I will make it known that parking is always very stressful and busy there.

I had the pleasure of being seen by Sarah Helfrich, NP-C. Sarah is truly amazing and super knowledgeable. She helped me answer some of your questions, which we shared on Instagram Stories.

Sarah listened to me and helped me make the best decision on what inject-able to choose.

The entire process went by pretty quickly. We marked the spots that needed treatment, and before I knew it I was almost done being injected.

I went back two weeks later for my follow up. We added a little more Botox, which is completely normal to do.

I am extremely happy with my results and care at Charleston Medical Spa. I cannot say enough great things about the staff as a whole. They even have clients that come from out of state, which truly speaks volumes.

If you are interested in getting Botox or any medical procedure, I highly recommend you look into Charleston Med Spa!

xx Courtney
